The European Union conducts a review and investigation on the case of safeguard measures for imported iron and steel products.

[EU review and filing investigation on the case of safeguard measures for imported iron and steel products] on December 17, 2021, the European Commission issued a notice and decided to launch a review and filing investigation into the case of safeguard measures for iron and steel products in the European Union. The results of this review are expected to be made no later than June 30, 2022.

On December 17, 2021, the European Commission issued a notice and decided to launch a review and filing investigation into the EU steel product safeguard measures case.

The main contents of the review include: (1) the allocation and management of tariff quotas; (2) whether the traditional trade volume is squeezed out; (3) whether imports enjoying the treatment of "developing countries of WTO" continue to be exempted; (4) the degree of liberalization; (5) changes in the 232provisions of the United States; and (6) other changes that may lead to changes in quota quantity and allocation. The results of the review are expected to be made no later than June 30, 2022.

On March 26, 2018, the European Commission launched a case investigation on safeguard measures for imported iron and steel products. On July 18, 2018, the European Commission made a preliminary ruling on the case. On January 4, 2019, the (WTO) safeguards Committee of the WTO issued a final notice on safeguards submitted by the EU delegation on January 2, 2019, deciding to impose a 25% safeguard tax on non-quota imports of iron and steel products before February 4, 2019. On January 31, 2019, the European Commission implemented safeguards on imported iron and steel products.
