It is true that smart cars have a greater demand for semiconductors. according to data, a traditional fuel car needs 100,200 semiconductor chips, and the number of electric vehicles will double on this basis. and a more intelligent pure electric vehicle even needs 800-1000 chips.

BYD is also taking practical actions to show the importance it attaches to automotive semiconductors: BYD Semiconductor is about to be spun off to be listed on the gem of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, the domestic car regulation-level IGBT leader, accounting for 18-20% of the domestic market.

In addition to BYD, the chip companies that accurately grasp the changing trends of the industry have already vigorously embraced the field of automotive intelligence:

Qualcomm, the world's largest mobile phone chip maker, recently announced a high-profile move into the automotive industry, holding hands with German carmaker BMW, whose chips will be used in BMW's next-generation driving assistance and self-driving systems.

Chip contract manufacturer GE Core has long made a plan to focus on automotive chips, and recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Ford Motor, which may launch joint research and development on battery management chips and self-driving system chips.

Automobile intellectualization will bring a broad market space for specification-level semiconductor suppliers. The root of the problem lies in: when will the intelligent second half open? In fact, the intelligent war of car companies has already begun, and 2021 will become a key node.

The lack of core gradually relieves the opening of the second half of the smart car.

In order to realize the intelligence of the automobile, the hardware such as sensor and lidar is the first step. Whether it is the autopilot chip, the communication baseband chip or the intelligent cockpit chip, it directly determines the intelligent level of the automobile.

At present, the intelligent upgrade of mainstream car factories has entered the equipment competition stage of "hardware pre-embedding, configuration redundancy". More and more intelligent new cars are unveiled, and high-level intelligent driving is about to be increased on a large scale.

At the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show, dozens of lidar models have been mass-produced or planned to be mass-produced. In addition to the four Huawei 96-line hybrid solid-state lidars, the more concerned models in the market also include: Weima M7 with 3 autonomous zoom high-precision super-looking solid-state lidars; Xiaopeng G9 with 2 lidars; Nachi S with 2 solid-state lidars.

New intelligent cockpit products were also unveiled, including SAIC GM Buick's new Buick SmartPod intelligent cockpit, and Luoshen, an intelligent cockpit system jointly created by Zebra Zhixing and Zhiji Automobile.

Prior to this, the persistent shortage of automotive chips has brought damage to the automotive industry chain. First-class vehicle factories often stop work and reduce production. Among spare parts suppliers, taking Desai Xiwei as an example, China International Capital Corporation said that the tight supply of chips has caused great constraints on the company's performance in the first three quarters.

However, at present, the situation of automobile core shortage is gradually alleviating. Zhao Yanan, an analyst at Guorong Securities, said that since October, the epidemic data in Malaysia have improved in an all-round way, and the recovery of fab operation is expected to be highly sustainable. The global leading automotive chip manufacturers Infineon, Texas Instruments, Italian Semiconductor and Renesas all have a layout in Malaysia, and automotive chips will continue to be alleviated, verifying each other with the automotive chip mitigation views of the domestic Automobile Industry Association.

Iconic events frequently lead to the joint efforts of new and old forces to press the intelligent acceleration button.

Looking back on the tail of 2021, there were too many iconic events in the smart car field around 2020: Apple revived the Titan program, Xiaomi and Sidu entered the market, and semiconductor companies attacked car smart chips. Foxconn intends to contract the production of cars and other news poured in.

This year, driven by the newcomers of the "car-building movement", the intelligent process of cars has obviously accelerated:

On Nov. 19, it was reported that Apple had made a major breakthrough in advancing its electric car development project and shifted its focus to fully autonomous driving technology. Xiaomi Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. was established on the 18th, Lei Jun as executive director, the scope of business covers the manufacture of intelligent vehicle equipment.

On the other hand, forerunners like Tesla never give up seizing the intelligent highland. This year, Tesla DOJO supercomputing center and D1 chip were officially unveiled, which is expected to help Tesla's AI training and improve the level of self-driving.

The next car-building team is becoming more and more numerous and complicated, which is sending a message to the outside: the automobile industry has entered the era of smart cars, and in the future, barriers no longer exist in the manufacturing process, and software is the field where premium space can be generated more. To create unlimited possibilities for "catching up from behind".

Wu Chao, an analyst at CITIC Construction Investment, said recently that the penetration of the entire new energy vehicle has increased significantly in the past year, but behind it, whether it is Tesla or various new car-building forces, it will focus more on the future car's intelligent cockpit, self-driving, and so on, an extension of the second half of these semi-smart cars. Looking at the dimension of next year, the most promising thing is car intelligence.
