SHANGHAI, Sep 16 (SMM) – According to SMM survey, Guizhou Provincial Energy Bureau recently issued a notice on an orderly power utilisation plan in Guizhou Province in 2021, stating that the plan was formulated to actively respond to the power supply tension that may occur in local regions and ensure the safe and stable operation of the Guizhou power grid. The implementation includes three parts: prevention and pre-control, graded early warning, and graded response.

The plan involves 4 alumina plants in Guizhou Province (installed annual production capacity of 4.4 million mt, excluding Guizhou Qizheng) and all 5 aluminium plants (installed compliance annual production capacity of 1.34 million mt, current operating annual production capacity of 1.3 million mt).

The news of the tightening of power restrictions in Guangxi has once again been fermented. There was news that the power consumption of aluminium plants will be cut by 35% based on the monthly average consumption from January to July, and the power consumption of alumina plants will be cut by 70% on the same basis. SMM will continue to follow up the power rationing.

[SMM Aluminum Flash News] Capral Aluminum Electrifies Furnace, Boosting Efficiency to 90% and Cutting Emissions
Capral Aluminum is replacing a 40-year-old gas furnace at its Queensland site with an electric system, including an electric convection furnace, induction heating and waste heat recovery. Efficiency is expected to rise from about 20% to over 90%, while cutting Scope 1 emissions by around 973 tones per year, about 9% of total emissions. The project, supported by AUD 3.45 million from ARENA, is targeted for commissioning in early 2027. The company said electrification will reduce emissions and fuel costs while improving operational stability and product consistency, and could serve as a reference for low-carbon upgrades in aluminum processing.
