SMM Sept. 14: today, Pilbara, a leading Australian lithium mining company, auctioned spodumene concentrate on the BMX platform for the second time after auctioning its spodumene concentrate at an all-time high price on the platform for the first time in July. According to the results of the auction, the final price of the auction was 2240 USD/t CIF, much higher than the range of 1700-2000USD/t (CIF China) that had been widely predicted by analysts, while the historical high price of its first auction was only 1315 USD (USD China).

For the 2240USD/t auction price of spodumene concentrate, Haitong Securities calculates that considering sea freight, the production cost of lithium salt is more than 150000 yuan, and considering the reasonable profit of lithium salt factory, the corresponding lithium price will exceed 200000 yuan.

According to the spot quotation of SMM, as of September 14, the average price of domestic battery-grade lithium carbonate was 143500 yuan / ton, up 56000 yuan / ton from mid-July, or 64%.

As for the future trend of lithium carbonate, SMM believes that the shortage of lithium carbonate market will continue in the second half of the year, and overseas imports will be significantly reduced due to shipping delays and container shortages caused by the epidemic, which will have a great impact on the supply of lithium carbonate in the domestic market, and it is expected that lithium carbonate prices will continue to rise in the future.

As of Sept. 14, the spot price of spodumene concentrate (6% last CIF China) averaged $1005 per tonne, up $270,36.7 per tonne from mid-July.
