Sai Microelectronics: the production capacity of MEMS process and wafer foundry has been tight, and the order waiting time is long.

On July 13, Saiwei Electronics accepted a survey of institutions, according to which it said that the company will actively grasp the market demand and strive to become a well-known semiconductor enterprise group based on local and international development.

According to Sai Microelectronics, in recent years, facing the era of the Internet of everything and artificial intelligence, Sai Microelectronics has formed a business pattern with semiconductors as the core, and MEMS and GaN have become strategic businesses at different stages of development and focusing on development. At the same time, the company carries out investment layout around related industries and serves the main business. Based on the advanced 8-inch production capacity of the industry's top expert engineers, mature processes and the continuous expansion of the MEMS field.

Sai Wei Electronics actively grasps the market demand and provides global customers with high-standard MEMS process development and wafer manufacturing services; at the same time, based on the industry's top technical team and excellent product performance, actively and rapidly layout GaN industry chain, and provide GaN (gallium nitride) epitaxial materials, GaN devices and supporting application solutions for new power supply, intelligent home appliances, communication equipment, data center and other fields. Sai Microelectronics implements the long-term development strategy and is committed to becoming a well-known semiconductor technology enterprise group based on local and international development.

Sai Microelectronics said: "since the completion of the merger and acquisition, the company has actively supported the upgrading of the Swedish production line and continued production expansion. The Swedish production line made a capital investment of more than 300 million yuan from 2017 to 2020. in September 2020, the original 6-inch production line (FAB1) was upgraded to an 8-inch production line, and the original 8-inch production line (FAB2) has also completed production expansion, increasing the total MEMS wafer production capacity to the level of 7000 wafers per month. The production capacity has continued to increase by 30% from the end of 2019, and capital investment is still continuing due to the needs of key customers.

According to the introduction, the comprehensive gross profit margin of the company's Swedish production line MEMES business in 2020 is close to 50%, and the net profit rate is close to 30%, which is expected to remain at a high level now and in the future. Because Beijing MEMS production line is a new production line, there is a great pressure of depreciation and amortization, and it is expected that wafer manufacturing business will account for a large proportion of the income structure, and the product structure of income will also be different from that of Sweden, so the gross profit margin and net profit margin of Beijing FAB3 production line at the initial stage of operation will be lower than that of Sweden production line. As the volume grows, the overall gross margin of the company's MEMS business is expected to decline (but can still maintain the normal level of the chip contract manufacturing industry).

The company also said that in recent years, the company's MEMS process development and wafer foundry production capacity has been relatively tight, and the order waiting time is longer. From the calculation results of the wafer unit price, the increase in the wafer price in recent years is sustained and rapid. The average selling price of the company's MEMS wafers from 2017 to 2020 is about $1700 / chip, $1800 / chip, $2200 / chip and $2700 / chip, respectively. Among them, the unit price of process development wafers is much higher than that of wafer manufacturing, with an average price of about US $5500 per piece in 2020, and some products can exceed US $10, 000 per piece.

According to the product category, the average selling price of consumer electronics MEMS wafers is lower, while that of biomedical MEMS wafers is higher, but there are different distributions among different types of wafers. Like the Swedish production line, the Wafer price of the Beijing production line varies greatly from category to category. At the same time, the price of the product in the wafer manufacturing (mass production) stage is generally lower than that in the process development (pilot) stage.

[SMM Chromium Flash] Eastplats' Q2 Chrome Concentrate Output Falls 24.5% YoY on Lower Processing Tonnages
Eastern Platinum Limited (TSX: ELR; JSE: EPS) reported chrome concentrate production of 14,921 mt at its Crocodile River Mine (CRM) in the second quarter of 2026, down 24.5% from 19,768 mt in the second quarter of 2025, with average chrome grade broadly stable at 40.38% versus 40.74% a year earlier. Interim CEO Charlie Liu said the quarter was challenging, as monthly run-of-mine processing tonnages at CRM came in lower than targeted, and said the company will continue to focus on operational efficiencies to improve PGM and chrome production. Revenue for the quarter fell 25.8% to $7.9 million from $10.7 million in the prior-year period, driven by reduced sales volumes of both platinum-group metals and chrome concentrates. Net loss attributable to equity shareholders widened to $6.1 million, or $0.03 per share, from $1.8 million in the second quarter of 2025. Mine operating income swung to a loss of $4.2 million from a profit of $0.36 million a year earlier, with gross margin falling to -53% from 3%. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue declined 14.8% to $21.7 million from $25.5 million in the same period of 2025, while mine operating loss narrowed slightly to $3.6 million from $4.3 million, aided by a marginal improvement in gross margin to -16.4% from -16.9%. CRM, on the western limb of South Africa's Bushveld Complex near Brits, produces PGM and chrome concentrates as co-products from ore mined at the Zandfontein underground section. The majority of Eastplats' revenue, approximately 78% in the second quarter and 80% year-to-date, comes from PGM concentrate sales to Impala Platinum under existing offtake agreements, with chrome concentrate sales making up the remainder. The company did not disclose a specific breakdown of revenue attributable to chrome concentrate sales alone within the reported figures.

[SMM Chromium Flash] NRZ Commissions Refurbished Wagons Under $2.8m Zimasco Rail Partnership
Zimbabwe's National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has increased its operational capacity following the refurbishment of 100 high-sided wagons and three locomotives under a US$2.8 million public-private partnership with ferrochrome producer Zimasco. The refurbished rolling stock was commissioned in Harare on Thursday by Transport Minister Felix Mhona. Mhona described the partnership as an innovative financing model that revives idle railway assets without placing an immediate burden on the Treasury, while securing a reliable export route for Zimasco's chrome through the ports of Beira and Maputo. "This partnership exemplifies a win-win financial engineering model. By funding the overhaul of idle wagons in exchange for freight charge offsets, Zimasco has secured a reliable supply chain route to international markets," Mhona said, adding that NRZ had expanded its operational capacity without an immediate fiscal burden on the Treasury. The minister described rail as the cheapest and safest mode of moving bulk cargo, saying the investment would help ease logistics bottlenecks, protect rehabilitated roads from damage caused by heavy trucks, and improve the competitiveness of Zimbabwean chrome exports. He urged other mining companies to adopt similar partnership models, noting that government, working with the Mutapa Investment Fund, is pursuing larger rail recapitalisation projects, including track and signalling upgrades and new locomotives through Afreximbank. Separately, Mhona said US$10 million had been secured for the Chicualacuala-Plumtree and Machipanda-Harare railway lines through tripartite cooperation involving Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Botswana, and that cooperation with South Africa on the North-South Corridor had also been revived.
