It has been reported recently that, Auroch Minerals is now planning the next phase of drilling for its recently acquired Nepean nickel project, south of Coolgardie in Western Australia. The company is using the cutting-edge integration of 3D mine modeling and geophysics to target the high-grade extension of the Nepean mine and to plan its first plan to drill beneath the storage operation.
Between 1970 and 1987, the Nepean mine produced more than 1 million tons of ore with a nickel grade of nearly 3%. The mine has since been closed because of falling nickel prices. However, as the price of nickel rose again, the prospect of finding high grade in old mines ignited the Auroch exploration camp.
Auroch's study shows that most of the nickel sulphide systems in, Yilgarn Craton are located deep, with the high-grade Silver Swan deposit north of Calguri and the Flying Fox deposit south of the Southern Cross extending more than 1200 meters below the surface. This provides a compelling model for the company's exploration plan at Nepean, and Auroch is continuing its regional exploration plan at Nepean.
