SHANGHAI, Jun 23 (SMM) — Xiangtan Electrochemical Technology announced that its subsidiary, Jingxi Lijin New Materials Co., Ltd., has basically completed construction of the main part of its 20,000 mt/year spinel-type LMO battery material project. The first automated production line of the project, which has a monthly output of 1,000 mt, commenced trial production on June 14. Jingxi Lijin New Materials will install another 10,000 mt/year production line in the future based on the operation of the first production line and market conditions.

Lithium manganese oxide (LMO) is mainly used in electric bicycles and low-speed electric vehicles, small motive power (power tools etc.), digital electronic products, and energy storage sectors. LMO can also be blended into ternary materials. In recent years, LMO has seen wide applications in electric bicycles and low-speed electric vehicles. The project is an important step taken by the company in the manganese-based new energy battery material industry, which will further enhance the company's competitiveness.

Cuba fuel squeeze to halt Sherritt’s nickel-cobalt operations
Due to the ongoing tight fuel supply in Cuba, Sherritt International Corp. plans to suspend mining and processing operations at its nickel-cobalt joint venture in Moa. The company has already scaled back activities and expects to enter a temporary shutdown in the near term, using the downtime to carry out scheduled maintenance. The immediate cause of the suspension is the failure of planned fuel deliveries to materialize. Sherritt is engaging with relevant parties and evaluating alternative sources of key inputs. The project is operated in partnership with General Nickel Company SA, and its semi-processed materials are typically shipped to a refinery in Alberta, Canada, which has a combined capacity of about 38,200 tonnes.
