[live broadcast] 2021 the sixth China International Nickel, Cobalt and Lithium Summit Forum was solemnly held!
On May 20, 2021, BASF and Shanshan, a leading supplier of lithium battery materials serving the electric transportation and consumer electronics markets, agreed to jointly form a joint venture controlled by BASF in China (BASF: 51%; Shanshan: 49%) to produce cathode active material (CAM) and cathode material precursor (PCAM). After obtaining the relevant approval, the deal is expected to be formally completed by the end of this summer.
As one of the world's leading suppliers of positive active materials for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, BASF will bring strong technical and R & D capabilities, global operational layout, and raw material supply systems built with strategic partners. Through the proposed joint venture in China, BASF will further consolidate its position in Asia, build a complete and unique global supply chain for Chinese and global customers, and will increase global annual production capacity to 160000 tons by the end of 2022 through continued production expansion.
Hunan Cunninghamia lanceolata Energy, as one of the market leaders of cathode materials in China, has been ploughing the field of lithium cathode materials for 18 years and has extensive professional knowledge and industry experience. the product portfolio covers all major systems of lithium-ion battery cathode materials and corresponding precursor products, and has formed the industrial chain layout of "raw materials-ternary precursors-cathode materials-battery recycling". Hunan Cunninghamia lanceolata Energy operates four production bases for cathode active materials and cathode material precursors in Hunan and Ningxia, and will achieve an annual production capacity of about 90,000 tons by 2022.
Dr. Kelly, executive board member of BASF Europe, said: "I am very pleased to witness the cooperation between BASF and Shanshan, a Chinese leader in cathode materials. The joint venture will complement BASF's global business layout of battery materials and bring us closer to our customers. Combined with the professional accumulation of BASF and Shanshan in the field of battery materials, we will contribute to the accelerated arrival of the electric transportation era. "
Zheng Yonggang, chairman of Shanshan Co., Ltd., said: "BASF and global car companies have extensive and long-term cooperation and strong brand influence." Through cooperation with BASF, we will further strengthen the competitiveness of Shanshan in the Chinese market and accelerate its integration with the global market, providing high-quality services and products to Chinese and global customers. "
Dr. Peter Schumacher, President of BASF Catalyst Business, said: "I am very excited to realize the breakthrough cooperation between BASF and Shanshan, which is a strong combination of battery materials market." Combined with the R & D and technical expertise of both sides, we will provide our customers with highly competitive products and services: more innovation, closer to customers, and stronger cost advantage. "
Li Zhihua, president of Shanshan Co., Ltd., said: "this cooperation will enable the two sides to complement each other in R & D, innovation and product mix. At the same time, the integration of both sides in the supply chain and customer resources will further enhance the competitiveness of the proposed joint venture and make it one of the world's leading suppliers of cathode materials."
BASF continues to distribute globally, serve local customers, and enhance its competitiveness in product portfolio and sustainable supply of raw materials. Through joint ventures with Toda in Japan and the United States, BASF has been positioned in Asia and North America and has become a leading manufacturer of high energy density cathode active materials. In Europe, the production bases of positive active materials and cathode material precursors invested by BASF in Germany and Finland are also under construction. The proposed joint venture with Shanshan, one of the leaders in China's cathode materials industry, will make BASF the first company to have cathode material production capacity in all major global markets in 2022.
