SHANGHAI, Nov 16 (SMM)—This is a roundup of news in the steel industry for last week.

Steel demand for passenger vehicle to exceed 5 million mt

Sales of passenger vehicles are likely to be 4.37 million units in November and December, with a yearly decline of 1.4 million untis. Steel consumption in car production is likely to stand at 11,600 mt, while in SUV and MPV  at 15,500 mt. Steel demand for passenger vehicle is expected to exceed 5 million mt with steel plate accounting for 52% (2.6 million mt), as the output is usually higher than sales, according to CPCA data.

Rizhao Steel #5 ESP project to be completed and commissioned in end November

The construction of the main plant of Rizhao Steel #5 ESP project has been completed recently. The civil and steel structures of the #5 ESP production line was completed in May, and the facilities has been fully installed during the past five months. Its external drainage and roads has been in construction since in October, and is expected to be completed on November 15. Debugging work is underway, and the production line is expected to be put into operation on November 23.

Temper mill of the 1780 production line in Baosteel Desheng hot rolling plant hoisted

At 6: 08 pm on November 7, the temper mill set of the 1780 production line was successfully hoisted in Baosteel Desheng hot rolling plant. It is the only finishing line in the plant, used to level, cut, and rewind the hot rolled coils from last procedure. The 200, 300 and 400 series of stainless steel at normal temperature will be improved in the shape, surface quality, and mechanical properties in this line. The capacity of the production line is 800,000 mt/year.

Liuzhou Steel's cold rolling output in October reached a record high of 81,700 mt

Liuzhou Steel produced 81,710 mt of cold rolled coils in October, hitting a record high. In #2 sintering plant, the total production volume of the 500 m2 sintering machine was 417,518 mt, 13,468 mt per day in average, which was another record high. All of the three coking furnaces and two CDQs have been put in use in the coking plant, and it was the first in China to use pressurized AS desulfurization process to decompose ammonia and recover sulphur, which will bring is annual sulphur output to 13,500 mt.

Anhui Development Mining's 5 million mt mining and beneficiation project enters EIA stage

Lilou iron ore mine is located in Huoqiu county, Anhui province and has an annual mining and beneficiation capacity of 5 million mt of ROM, with ore grade of TFe31.52%. The final product is single iron ore concentrates with a grade of TFe 65% and annual output of 1.87 million mt of iron ore concentrates. The total ore reserves are 276.25 million mt, of which 231.39 million mt are buried at a depth of-200m-680m.

An iron ore mine in Liaoning collapsed, two workers killed

An iron ore mine in Chaoyang county, Liaoning province, has collapsed in mid-November, killing two drivers. The mine has an annual capacity of 300,000 mt of iron ore concentrates. It is expected that the local government will strictly investigate mines and beneficiation plants in the wake of the accident. However, the impact may be limited since most of the local mines are small ones.

Zhanjiang Customs detained 88,000 mt of solid waste "pyrite slag"

On November 9, Zhanjiang Customs sent a batch of 88,000 mt of imported solid wastes out of China. In September, the customs anti-smuggling department inspected “iron ore fines” declared by a producer and confirmed the cargoes as "pyrite slag", which is solid waste prohibited from imports.
