[South Korea develops new battery technology to charge electric vehicle batteries in 6 minutes] researchers from (Pohang University of Science and Technology) of Pohang University of Technology and (Sungkyunkwan University) of Seung Kwan University announced on Oct. 19 that they have successfully developed a faster and longer-lasting battery charging technology for electric vehicles that can charge 90% of the battery in less than 6 minutes.

SMM: on October 19, local time, researchers from (Pohang University of Science and Technology) of South Korea's Pohang University of Technology and (Sungkyunkwan University) of Seung Kwan University announced that they have successfully developed a faster and more durable electric vehicle battery charging technology, which can charge electric vehicle batteries to 90% in less than 6 minutes.

Up to now, the main way to accelerate the charge and discharge speed of secondary battery or electric vehicle battery is to reduce the size of the electrode material, but the disadvantage of this method is that it will reduce the energy density of the battery.

As a result, the team proposed a new solution to make the charge and discharge faster without losing the battery's energy density by creating an intermediate phase during the phase change of the battery's charge and discharge. at the same time, there is no need to reduce the size of the electrode particles.

When the battery is charging and discharging, the phase change material will transition to a new phase for the entry and exit of lithium, resulting in phase change.

The secondary battery electrode developed by the research team can be fully charged in 6 minutes and 54% in 18 seconds, providing a better development prospect for secondary batteries with higher output capacity.

High-Grade NPI Smelter Profits Squeezed as Ore Prices Rise and Sales Prices Dip
[SMM Nickel Flash] Based on nickel ore prices from 25 days ago, smelter profits for high-grade NPI remained high this week. However, from the current raw material side, ore prices from both the Philippines and Indonesia increased, while auxiliary material prices saw a slight pullback, leading to an increase in the cash cost of producing high-grade NPI from spot ore. At the same time, high-grade NPI prices experienced some pullback, making it difficult for smelter profits to see sustained improvement.

High-Grade NPI Prices Fall, Expected to Stabilize as Chinese New Year Approaches
[SMM Nickel Flash] This week, due to a sharp decline in futures triggering arbitrage selling, high-grade NPI prices fell significantly. However, after the selling activity subsided, upstream quotations and the market center gradually returned to normal levels, supported by cost factors. Looking ahead, as the Chinese New Year holiday approaches, market activity is expected to remain subdued, and high-grade NPI prices are projected to hover at highs with limited fluctuations.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
