California bans the sale of fuel passenger cars in 2035

SMM: according to reports, on September 23, California Governor Gavin Newsom said that as the largest car market in the United States, the state will gradually turn to electric vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, so California plans to ban the sale of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks from 2035.

Earlier this month, Newsom announced that he would step up efforts to combat climate change in the state, which is experiencing one of the worst wildfires in its history. Newsom signed an executive order on the hood of a red Mustang Mach-E.

Newsom said California would set a "firm goal" to phase out the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035 and encourage other states to take similar action. California has a broader goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80% from 1990 levels by 2050, but transport emissions have increased in recent years.

(CARB), the California Air Resources Board, will translate Newsom's goals into legally binding requirements, and the committee will enact regulations that will provide for 100 per cent zero emissions of new passenger and truck cars sold in the state by 2035. The committee also plans to achieve zero emissions for all medium and heavy vehicles by 2045, where feasible.

California accounts for about 11% of all new car sales in the United States, after many states chose to adopt California's environmentally friendly car regulations. Newsom said the move will be an economic opportunity to create jobs in the future and boost the development of US automakers. "if you are an American manufacturer, how can you compete globally without this business?" he said. How can you compete if you don't explore the boundaries of innovation? "

Us President Donald Trump (Donald Trump) has tried to ban the mandatory sale of electric cars in California, while Democratic candidate Joe Biden (Joe Biden) has promised to spend billions of dollars to accelerate the spread of electric cars. White House spokesman Judd Deere called California's move "shocking" and said the decision would destroy jobs and increase the cost of car purchases for consumers. "President Trump will not tolerate this," he said. "

Matt Hill, a spokesman for Biden, said electric cars could "create 1 million high-paying union jobs, dominate the world's fast-growing market and meet the needs of dealing with the climate crisis."

The move comes after California and more than 20 other states sued the Trump administration for overturning Obama-era car emission standards and trying to remove California's right to set stricter car pollution rules.

California said 15 countries had already made similar commitments, including the UK. However, California's green car goals are not always passed, and in some cases may even be overturned or reformulated.

The goal set by the Newsom executive order is to stop selling new gasoline-powered passenger cars after 2035, but it does not prevent California residents from owning gasoline-powered models or the circulation of gasoline-powered cars on the second-hand market.

Environmental groups applaud Newsom's actions, but automakers are skeptical. "neither a mandatory rule nor a ban can build a successful market," said one industry group. " They point out that electric vehicles account for less than 10% of new car sales in California, which is already the best performance among American states.

Sluggish Transactions in Domestic Secondary Crude Lead Market, Prices at 15,250-15,400 Yuan/mt
The domestic secondary crude lead market experienced sluggish transactions. As of February 6, 2026, the ex-factory tax-exclusive offers for domestic secondary crude lead stood at 15,250-15,400 yuan/mt. Downstream refined lead and alloy smelters gradually entered the holiday period, showing weak stockpiling willingness. Overseas lead ingot suppliers basically halted transactions with China due to poor consumption in the Chinese market, with only some previously concluded shipments maintaining normal in-transit transportation. The trading atmosphere in the secondary crude lead market will continue to weaken next week.
