SMM: on the evening of Sept. 7, BYD released August sales data, totaling 37000 vehicles, up 2.4% from 36000 in the same period last year, slightly increasing 2.4% to 227000 vehicles from January to August, down 23.1% from a year earlier.

In terms of new energy vehicles, BYD sold 15283 new energy vehicles in August, compared with 16719 in the same period last year, down 8.6% from January to August last year, and 91060 new energy vehicles, down 49.11% from a year earlier.

Specifically, BYD's cumulative sales of pure electric passenger vehicles from January to August were 66000, down 43.1% from the same period last year, accounting for 77.6% of new energy passenger vehicle sales; plug-in hybrid sales were only 19000 from January to August, down 66.2% from the same period last year; the new energy commercial vehicle sector was relatively stable, with cumulative sales of 5801 vehicles from January to August, down 4.4% from the same period last year.

In addition, BYD's total installed capacity of power batteries and energy storage batteries for new energy vehicles in August 2020 is about 0.949 GWH and the total installed capacity from January to August is about 5.813GWh.

New Times Securities said that affected by the epidemic, BYD's new models will be released in the second half of the year, including brand-new models, such as "Han" and "Song Plus", as well as modified models, such as "Tang", "e2", "E3" and so on. In addition, "Yuan" has been listed in the announcement catalogue and is expected to be listed in 20Q4. At present, "Han" orders more than 30,000 vehicles, blade battery capacity climbing is conducive to the introduction of new orders. At the same time, the launch of other new models will also continue to thicken the company's existing orders. According to the cumulative sales in the previous July, "Han", "Tang", "Song", "Yuan", "e2" and "E3" accounted for nearly half of the pure electric vehicles, and the listing of new models boosted the sales of BYD's new energy vehicles. Against the backdrop of the epidemic in the first half of the year, new era securities expects BYD's year-on-year decline in new energy vehicle sales to narrow to less than 10% in 2020.

[SMM Analysis] Riding the Winds In and Outside China, Breaking the Iron Law of Old Cycles: 2026 Energy Storage Battery Cell Semi-Annual Review and Outlook
[SMM Analysis] In H1, the overflow of global utility-scale energy storage long-term contracts intertwined with the growing pains of production line upgrades. This not only completely shattered the cyclical pattern of "retreat after rapid rise" in the energy storage market, but also directly triggered a structural shortage and a strong price recovery for 314Ah battery cells. Furthermore, driven by the looming cancellation of tax rebates at year-end, an even more intense wave of "export rush" is gaining momentum, potentially pushing the full-year battle between volume and price to its peak.
