SMM9, March 8: IG Metall, the German federation of metal workers, is reported to have called on the German government to provide state assistance and steel companies to form an alliance to shift the steel industry to blast furnace renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions.

Hogman (Joerg Hofmann), head of IG Metall, said that because companies such as ThyssenKrupp (Thyssenkrupp), Salstar (Saarstahl) and Salzgit (Salzgitter) would not be able to achieve this goal on their own, billions of dollars would be needed to turn to green steel. According to JoergHofmann, despite the need for an alliance, a merger between ThyssenKrupp and Salzgit could be risky.
