The process supervision and terminal treatment measures of groundwater in rare earth mines have been successfully demonstrated by experts.

On August 30, 2020, Ganzhou rare Earth Mining Co., Ltd. organized the "Evaluation report on the effect of groundwater process Supervision and Terminal treatment measures in Longnan Huangsha and Dingnan Egongkeng Watershed of Ganzhou rare Earth Mine" and "Ganzhou rare Earth Mine Integration Project (Phase I). Groundwater pollution prevention and control measures construction plan" expert discussion meeting, the meeting believes that the groundwater process supervision and terminal treatment measures are basically feasible. The construction plan of the first phase of integrated groundwater pollution prevention and control measures in the mining area is arranged scientifically, the process route is feasible, and the investment estimate is reasonable.

SMM: on August 30, 2020, Ganzhou rare Earth Mining Co., Ltd. organized and held the "report on the effect Evaluation of groundwater process Supervision and Terminal treatment measures in the Longnan Huangsha and Dingnan Egongkeng basins of Ganzhou rare Earth Mine" and the "Ganzhou rare Earth Mine Integration Project (Phase I) groundwater pollution Prevention and Control measures Construction Plan" expert discussion meeting. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Municipal Natural Resources Bureau, the Ecological Environment Bureau, Jiangxi Nuclear Industry 264th Battalion, and China Enfei Engineering and Technology Co., Ltd. The meeting was chaired by Zhong Ruilin, general manager of Ganzhou rare Earth Mining Co., Ltd. Liu Weijiang, director of the Ecological Environment Supervision Technology Center of the Ministry of soil and Agricultural villages of the Ministry of Ecological Environment, Sun Wenliang, professor of China Enfei Engineering and Technology Co., Ltd., Professor Rao Yunzhang of Jiangxi University of Technology, Li Qing senior engineer of Mining and Metallurgical Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd., Jiangxi Applied Technology Vocational College and other five experts jointly set up an argumentation expert group.

The expert group successively heard the report of Jiangxi Nuclear Industry 264th Brigade on the evaluation report on the effect of groundwater process supervision and terminal treatment measures in the Longnan Huangsha and Dingnan Egongkeng basins of Ganzhou rare Earth Mine, and the report of China Enfei on the Construction Plan of groundwater pollution Prevention and Control measures for the Ganzhou rare Earth Mine Integration Project (Phase I). Participants discussed and exchanged views on the evaluation report and the construction plan. The meeting held that the technology of groundwater process supervision and terminal treatment measures is basically feasible; the site layout of the construction plan of the first phase of integrated groundwater pollution prevention and control measures in the mining area is scientific, the process route is feasible, and the investment estimate is relatively reasonable. The expert group and the leaders of the Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources and the Bureau of Ecological Environment fully affirmed the two reports and put forward some professional suggestions at the same time.

The environmental assessment of ionic rare earth mines started relatively late in China, and there is no precedent for the application of underground water pollution control measures in rare earth mines, and the prevention and control measures are put forward on the basis of experience and theoretical calculation, resulting in difficulties in the actual construction and implementation. It is difficult to achieve the desired results. The process supervision and terminal treatment measures of groundwater in rare earth mines have been demonstrated by experts, which indicates that the prevention and control of groundwater pollution in ionic rare earth mines has taken a big step forward. it fills the gap that there are no effective measures for the prevention and control of groundwater pollution in rare earth mines in southern Jiangxi, and has important guiding significance for promoting the green development of rare earth industry in southern Jiangxi.

Notice of meeting

Northeastern University Develops More Efficient Rare Earth Extraction Method
Researchers at Northeastern University have introduced a new technique that can double the efficiency of rare earth element extraction. The study reveals a method for recovering rare earth elements from coal tailings, waste materials left after mining, using chemical treatment combined with a specially designed microwave reactor for precise temperature control. This approach achieves extraction rates two to three times higher than previous methods.

USA Rare Earth to Start Commercial Magnet Shipments in April, Aiming for 1,200 mt Annual Capacity by 2027
USA Rare Earth will begin commercial shipments of magnets in April. According to a company statement, the first rare earth magnet production line at its Stillwater, Oklahoma facility has been put into operation and is expected to reach full capacity of 600 mt per year by month-end December. In January this year, USA Rare Earth signed a non-binding agreement with the US Department of Commerce and planned to receive $1.6 billion in funding support to build a mine, thereby providing raw material for its magnet production. USA Rare Earth said that by 2027, the capacity of its Oklahoma magnet plant should reach 1,200 mt per year.
