SMM Network: nickel smelter operator-Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) said that due to the flood, has stopped the operation of the smelter. The smelter is controlled by China Qingshan holding Group and France's Eramet.
Part of the industrial park on Indonesia's Hama Hera island was flooded on Wednesday after two days of torrential rain, IWIP said in a statement.
"at present, the management of IWIP is organizing evacuations, while activities at the smelter are temporarily suspended until the floodwaters recede."
The company showed a video of a partially flooded street in the industrial park where excavators were cleaning up rubbish.
IWIP spokesman Bilal Zhau said in the video that floodwaters in some areas had receded and activities began to return to normal.
The company said the floods caused no casualties.
Weda Bay is one of the projects listed by the Indonesian government as a "national priority" to promote domestic nickel processing at a time when Indonesia stops exporting unprocessed nickel mines.
Weda Bay began operation in April this year with an annual output of 30000 tons.
