SMM7: workers at Antofagasta and its Zaldivar copper mine decided to extend government mediation to avoid a strike on Wednesday night, according to trade unions.

On July 15th, workers at the Zaldivar copper mine entered the government mediation.

At present, Antofagasta did not respond to this.

The Zaldivar copper mine accounts for about 2% of Chile's annual copper production. The Zaldivar mine produced 58100 tons of copper in 2019. Antofagasta holds a 50 per cent stake in the Zaldivar copper mine and the other part is held by Barrick Gold.

"[concern] the result of the vote of the workers at the Zaldivar Copper Mine in Chile fell to the ground! A strike is tentatively scheduled for July 15
