SMM7 March 15: according to data released by the South African Bureau of Statistics, South Africa's gold production in May decreased by 20.3% compared with the same period last year. April production decreased by 60.2% compared with the same period last year, with an initial value of 59.6%.
South Africa's platinum group metal production fell 27.3 per cent in May from a year earlier.
The statistics bureau also announced that the country's total mining output fell 29.8% in May from a year earlier, after a revised decline of 50.3% in April, with an initial decrease of 47.3%.
