[SMM analysis] China's magnesium ingot exports decreased without the impact of the epidemic, and magnesium ingot exports increased by 4.22% from January to April compared with the same period last year.

In April 2020, China exported 21892.703 tons of magnesium ingots, down 44 per cent from the previous month and an increase of 3.54 per cent over the same period last year. The total export value of magnesium ingots was US $49.3822 million, with an average price of US $2255.65, down 1.81 per cent from the previous month and 8.36 per cent lower than the same period last year. From January to April, magnesium ingot exports totaled 86500 tons, an increase of 4.22 percent over the same period last year.

SMM5: according to data from the General Administration of Customs, China's total exports of magnesium products in April 2020 were 38231.39 tons, down 38.89 percent from the previous month and an increase of 0.92 percent over the same period last year. In early April, affected by the overseas epidemic, the export volume of magnesium ingots and magnesium products decreased compared with the previous month. According to SMM, producers and traders of magnesium ingots said that most export orders for magnesium ingots after April 10 were delayed or even cancelled, while producers of magnesium powder and magnesium alloys said they had received few export orders after mid-April, so China's total exports of magnesium ingots and magnesium products decreased by nearly 40% month-on-month in April.

From January to April, the total export of magnesium ingots was 86500 tons, an increase of 4.22% over the same period last year. Therefore, as of April, the overall export volume of magnesium ingots in China has not decreased due to the impact of the epidemic, on the contrary, it has also increased because of making up for previous orders and superimposed on some foreign markets to prepare goods in advance.

In April 2020, China's magnesium alloy exports were 6294.24 tons, down 51% from the previous month and 23.77% from the same period last year. The total export value of magnesium alloy was US $16.2106 million, with an average price of US $2575.47, an increase of 2.90% from the previous month and a decrease of 13.97% from the same period last year.

In April 2020, China exported 8066.974 tons of magnesium powder, down 14 per cent from the previous month and an increase of 6.87 per cent over the same period last year. The export value of magnesium powder was US $19.1112 million, with an average price of US $2369.06, an increase of 1.03% from the previous month and a decrease of 5.43% from the same period last year.

In April 2020, China's exports of magnesium products were 504.691 tons, an increase of 4.78% from the previous month and 1.18% from the same period last year. The export value of magnesium products was US $2.1754 million, and the average price was US $4310.34, an increase of 10.64% from the previous month and 2.15% from the same period last year.

In April 2020, China's exports of magnesium processed materials were 326.809 tons, an increase of 66.12% from the previous month and 42.18% from the same period last year. The export value of magnesium processed materials was US $1.5739 million, with an average price of US $4815.92, a month-on-month decrease of 33.19% and a year-on-year decrease of 21.84%.

In April 2020, China exported 1145.973 tons of magnesium scrap, an increase of 72.17% from the previous month and 463.1% from the same period last year. The export value of magnesium scrap was US $2.5814 million, and the average price was US $2252.57, an increase of 13.13% from the previous month and 0.71% from the same period last year.

In April 2020, China's total exports of magnesium products were 38231.39 tons, down 38.89% from the previous month and an increase of 0.92% over the same period last year.
