SMM flash, September 4:
Today, mainstream quotations for 99.90% magnesium ingot in Fugu were 15,800-15,900 yuan/mt, and mainstream quotations for 99.80% magnesium ingot in Fugu were 15,750-15,850 yuan/mt. China FOB prices were $2,250-2,350/mt.
Today, the Chinese and overseas magnesium ingot markets were under pressure in tandem. Actual transactions in major domestic production areas continued to edge lower, falling 50 yuan/mt in a single day. Tianjin port FOB quotations pulled back to $2,250-2,350/mt, down $10/mt from the previous working day. On the supply side, maintenance-related production cuts expanded in Fugu. Weekly operating rates and production pulled back slightly. Smelters still intended to hold prices firm, but trader acceptance was low. On the demand side, the pace of restocking in Europe slowed down, with no substantive improvement in domestic trade or exports. The market is expected to see a stockpiling window from mid-to-late September to the pre-National Day period, but there is no signal yet of an order surge, leaving high uncertainty. Going forward, market attention will remain on downstream purchasing sentiment and actual order settlements. The magnesium ingot market may continue to consolidate in a narrow range.
