SMM5, March 11: Chilean Mining Minister Baldo Prokurica recently ordered the disinfection of his office building with quaternary ammonium salt containing copper nanoparticles to prevent the spread of the new crown virus.

Minister Prokurica said on his Twitter and local television media that the technology was developed by Chilean company Aintech. "for a long time, we have wanted to use copper as an antimicrobial agent to prevent the spread of bacteria, viruses and fungi."

It is reported that products sprayed on the office of Minister Prokurica can prevent wood, fabric and glass from becoming hosts of pathogens.

Based on the characteristics of the product, the Chilean Minister of Mines advocated the use of the product in airports, bus stations and hospitals. For medical centers, the product can also be used on personal devices, such as surgical masks.

Copper-plated masks were on display as early as 2019 at the Canadian Exploration and developers Annual meeting (PDAC).

In addition, Minister Prokurica said that given that most of the people who use cash are elderly, he discussed with the country's mints the addition of copper to banknote notes to prevent the spread of germs.
