[SMM data] Total stainless steel production in April was about 2.22 million tons month-on-month increase of 9 per cent expected to continue to recover in May

According to SMM, national stainless steel production totaled about 2.216 million tons in April, an increase of 180000 tons over March, or about 8.95 percent month-on-month. Among them, the output of 300 series increased by 126000 tons to 1.131 million tons, and that of 200 series increased by 112000 tons to 769000 tons. As a result of the reduction in production of a large stainless steel plant in North China, the overall output decreased by 56000 tons to 316000 tons in April. Production was low in February and gradually recovered in March, with a certain increase on a month-on-month basis, but from a year earlier, production in April was still in a state of decline from a year earlier, with a total drop of 5.5% from the same period last year.

Recently, stainless steel prices have continued to strengthen, profit levels have gradually improved, and steel mills have received good orders. According to the steel plant scheduling plan, production in May has continued to increase. The total output of stainless steel in May is expected to be about 2.31 million tons, of which 300 series is about 1.189 million tons, an increase of 58000 tons over the previous month in April, close to the level of the same period last year.
