According to SMM statistics, stainless steel exports in March 2020 were about 367900 tons, an increase of 24.68 percent over the same period last year, while imports were about 61500 tons, down 70.49 percent from the same period last year. Of this total, about 16900 tons were imported from Indonesia, accounting for about 27 per cent of the total imports.

SMM4, 27 March:

According to statistics, in March 2020, stainless steel exports were about 367900 tons, an increase of 24.68 percent over the same period last year, and imports were about 61500 tons, down 70.49 percent from the same period last year. Of this total, about 16900 tons were imported from Indonesia, accounting for about 27 per cent of the total imports.

Stainless steel exports still increased in March, on the one hand, because most of the export orders had been signed before the Spring Festival, and resumed production after the year; on the other hand, due to seasonal effects, the export volume increased in March in previous years, while the outbreak abroad occurred at the end of March, and the amount of influence in the early stage may be limited.

However, the import and export volume in April may have a downward trend, the outbreak of foreign outbreaks, the blockade of ports in various countries, superimposed pre-delayed orders have been delivered in March, if the follow-up order volume can not continue to follow up, the import and export volume will be reduced to a certain extent.

The cumulative net export volume from January to March 2020 was about 600000 tons, an increase of 73 per cent over the same period last year. On the one hand, the cumulative increase in net exports was due to seasonal reasons, with an increase in export orders from March to April in previous years; on the other hand, imports fell sharply in March, down 70% from the same period last year, further increasing the increase in net exports.

[SMM Nickel Flash] Pure Battery Technologies Advances US$350 Million Batang pCAM Project
Australia-based Pure Battery Technologies (PBT) is advancing plans to invest around US$350 million in a precursor cathode active material (pCAM) facility at the Industropolis Batang Special Economic Zone in Central Java, with the project currently in the engineering stage and construction targeted to begin in 2027. The facility is planned to process mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) supplied by Indonesia’s domestic HPAL industry into higher-value pCAM, helping fill a key gap between Indonesia’s rapidly expanding nickel processing capacity and downstream battery-cell manufacturing. The project is expected to employ around 1,000 workers during construction and approximately 200 during operations.
