Copper cathode inventories in Guangdong fell for 6 weeks amid rising consumption

Social inventories of copper cathode in south China’s Guangdong province declined for the sixth consecutive week as of April 17 as arrivals remained limited and consumption strengthened.

SHANGHAI, Apr 17 (SMM) – Social inventories of copper cathode in south China’s Guangdong province declined for the sixth consecutive week as of April 17 as arrivals remained limited and consumption strengthened. 


SMM data showed that social inventories of copper cathode at major warehouses in Guangdong stood at 64,122 mt as of April 17, down 10,251 mt from Friday April 10. The stocks decreased 8,400 mt in the week ended April 10


Copper cathode inventories in China’s major consumption areas, including Guangdong, Shanghai and Jiangsu, totalled 400,400 mt as of April 17, 33,000 mt lower from a week ago, according to SMM data. 


The overall stocks have decreased for the fourth consecutive week as of April 17, but remained about 185,400 mt higher than the level before the Chinese New Year holiday (January 23). 


Stocks of copper cathode in Shanghai shrank 12,000 mt week on week to 296,000 mt as of April 17.
