Worldsteel: China crude steel production estimated to rise 7.2% YoY in January

China’s crude steel production increased 7.2% year on year to 84.3 million mt in January, barely changed from December

SHANGHAI, Feb 26 (SMM) – China’s crude steel production increased 7.2% year on year to 84.3 million mt in January, barely changed from December, according to calculations by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel) based on a China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) production estimate.

 

This marked the third straight month of gains in China’s crude steel production, after a year-over-year increase of 11.6% in December.

 

The Worldsteel report on Tuesday also revealed that crude steel production across 64 countries increased 2.1% from a year ago to 154.4 million mt in January. The world production stood at 151.5 million mt in December.
