Primary aluminium inventories extended decline by 44,000 mt on week

Stocks decreased by 44,000 mt to 604,000 mt in the week ended December 19

SHANGHAI, Dec 19 (SMM) – Social inventories of primary aluminium in China continued to trend lower this week, SMM data showed, with Guangdong contributing to more than half of the decline.

Stocks across eight consumption areas in China, including SHFE warrants, decreased by 44,000 mt to 604,000 mt in the week ended December 19, after a decline of 57,000 mt in the previous week.

Wuxi, Jiangsu – 193,000 mt

Shanghai – 119,000 mt

Nanhai, Guangdong – 131,000 mt

Gongyi, Henan – 29,000 mt

Hangzhou, Zhejiang – 54,000 mt

Tianjin – 54,000 mt    

Linyi, Shandong – 5,000 mt

Chongqing –19,000 mt

On March 27, 2026, the European Commission announced that, in response to an application submitted by the EU industry association European Aluminium on December 19, 2025, it had initiated the first sunset review investigation into anti-dumping duties on aluminum extrusions originating from China. The investigation will examine whether dumping of the products in question and the injury to the domestic industry caused by the removal of the existing anti-dumping measures will continue or recur. The dumping investigation period for this review is from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025, and the injury investigation period is from January 1, 2022 to the end of the dumping investigation period. Unless otherwise extended, the final determination will be made within 12 months.
