China alumina production dropped 9.7% YoY in November

China’s production of alumina dropped 9.7% from a year ago to 5.67 million mt in November

SHANGHAI, Dec 18 (SMM) – China’s production of alumina dropped 9.7% from a year ago to 5.67 million mt in November, according to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

This brought the production in January to November, of 66.49 million mt, to a decline of 0.7% from the same period last year, compared to an increase of 4.4% in January to October.

NBS data also showed that China’s production of primary aluminium fell 3.2% from a year ago to 2.9 million mt in November.

Primary aluminium production in the first 11 months of 2019 came in at 32.13 million mt, down 0.6% year on year.

World primary aluminium market was in a deficit of 298,000 mt in January to October, following a deficit of 667,000 mt recorded for the whole of 2018, the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS) reported on Tuesday.

The WBMS report also said that global primary aluminium production fell 0.6% year on year in January to October. Output from China was estimated at 29.25 million mt, accounting for about 57% of the world total.
