SHFE copper prices rallied from lows last week. Prices edged up from 67,500 yuan/mt and tested the 70,000 yuan/mt mark on Friday. European and US stock markets plunged sharply on Tuesday evening amid market concerns over the Delta strain, while SHFE copper prices opened lower.

The Fed has suggested that it will decide the policy direction based on economic recovery. In this scenario, investors bet on the Dollar rising due to upbeat non-farm payrolls last week. This drove nickel prices to fall and seek support from the 20-day moving average.

SHFE nonferrous metals broadly fell on Thursday December 31 as multiple markets closed early for New Year's Eve.

Shanghai base metals mostly cruised lower on Tuesday morning, while their counterparts on the LME rose for the most part as market sentiment was boosted after Trump signed into law the $2.3 trillion pandemic aid and spending package.
