BHP Billiton promotes Cobalt and Nickel Sulfate production to seize Electric vehicle Market

SMM8 7: BHP Billiton is vigorously developing its cobalt sulfate production business to strengthen the company's impact on the electric vehicle market.

Haegel said on the sidelines of the Mining Forum for Machinery and equipment and Dealers in Calguli, western Australia, that the company would use a small processing plant for advance testing. BHP Billiton is already accelerating plans to expand nickel sulfate production and will consider approving an increase in annual production to 200000 tonnes, making West Nickel the world's largest nickel plant.

Cobalt sulfate can be directly used in the production of 3C lithium cobalt acid batteries. Cobalt prices are under pressure this year, but are still well above where they were two years ago. Cobalt is an indispensable material for the manufacture of anode for power batteries. with the popularity of pure electric vehicles, the price of cobalt continues to rise. although the price of cobalt is under pressure this year, the London market, an international indicator, has quadrupled the price of cobalt compared with two years ago. The development of a new generation of battery technology to reduce cobalt use is also under way, but it will take time to quantify it.
