China produced 1.22 million new energy vehicles in 2018, up 50.7% from 2017, information provider Gasgoo reported from data by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Of that, passenger vehicles accounted for 994,000 units, up 80.7% year on year.
In December, production of NEVs came in at 226,000 units, up 16% year on year and 17.7% month on month.
Installed capacity of motive batteries in NEVs totalled 13.6 GWh in December, standing 15.4% higher than December 2017. This monthly figure marked an all-time high.
Total installed motive battery capacity for the Chinese NEV market jumped 57% from 2017 to stand at 57.35 GWh in 2018, and 32.86 GWh, or 57.3% of that was for passenger vehicles, soaring 137% from a year earlier.
