SHANGHAI, Dec 10 (SMM) – China exported 72,000 mt of silicon metal in October, down 3.7% from September but up 22.5% from October 2017, showed data from China Customs.
This came after the exports dipped 8.7% month on month to 75,000 mt in September.
In January-October, exports amounted to 730,000 mt, some 8.6% higher than the same period in 2017, with average monthly exports of 73,000 mt.
In October, thin purchases by overseas buyers kept exporters mostly fulfilling backlogged orders.
Falling prices of silicon and the limited price advantage of domestic brands in global markets lowered purchasing enthusiasm across foreign buyers. We expect China's silicon exports to extend their decline in November.
