Some 30,400 mt per day of pig iron production is likely to resume across those mills

SHANGHAI, Nov 6 (SMM) – Some 30,400 mt of daily pig iron production is likely to resume as suspended steel mills in Xuzhou of Jiangsu province plan to recover by mid-November, SMM research found.

Pig iron will be produced at those mills in late November, SMM expects. As of November 6, some mills have begun to dry their blast furnaces to prepare for operation.

As of Tuesday, only three mills in Xuzhou are operating. Eight are in the process of shutting and one plans to relocate in order to address steel overcapacity and air quality issues in the city.

Production of those mills was required to suspend in April when central and local environmental probes occurred. Most mills have since remained offline as only a few passed checks and resumed operation in July
