Yunnan’s Gejiu to shut 60% of beneficiation plants by end-Nov

SHANGHAI, Oct 23 (SMM) – About 60 beneficiation plants would be demolished across Gejiu city in Yunnan province by the end of November as part of the local government's campaign to move such pollutant sources to the industrial park, according to the latest notice by the local government.

Those plants that will not move to the industrial park account for over 60% of beneficiation plants in the city, which has the largest tin reserves in China and is home to the most important tin-mining operation in China.

Plants that will move to the industrial park are required to begin the construction of their new capacities before the end of October and to demolish their old capacities before mid-January 2019.

The International Tin Association (ITRI) expects this move to affect tin concentrate output across the region by some 1,000 mt per month.

ITRI also learned that the construction of new capacities in the industrial park is unlikely to be completed before the deadline of January 15, 2019. Limited beneficiation capacity would be in operation at the beginning of next year and this is set to unsettle the market.
