The price spread has widened to some 1,300 yuan/mt as of Sep 27, from 1,000 yuan/mt a week ago

SHANGHAI, Sep 27 (SMM) – Price spread between refined copper and copper scrap has widened to some 1,300 yuan/mt as of Thursday September 27, from 1,000 yuan/mt a week ago. This is set to boost downstream demand for copper scrap given its price advantage, SMM believes.

Refined copper price rising faster than that of copper scrap led to the wider gap. As of last Thursday, the price gap had hovered between 0-1,000 yuan/mt from the end of June.

SMM assessed price of #1 refined copper at 50,450-50,530 yuan/mt as of September 27, up 560 yuan/mt from a week ago.
