A stainless steel plant in east China raised its purchasing price of high-grade nickel pig iron this week by 10 yuan/mtu

SHANGHAI, Aug 24 (SMM) – A stainless steel plant in east China raised its purchasing price of high-grade nickel pig iron (NPI) this week by 10 yuan/mtu, SMM learned. Its purchasing price stood at 1,110 yuan/mtu delivered to plant with tax included. Procurement volumes exceeded 1,000 mt.

As of Friday August 24, the spot price of high-grade NPI averaged 1,097.5 yuan/mtu, compared with 1,080 yuan/mtu last Friday, SMM assessment showed.

Domestic environmental probes continued to grow uncertainty over supplies. Market concerns lingered despite SMM’s estimation that NPI output would rise 9% from July to 37,000 mt in nickel content in August, after the previous environmental review ended. In July, NPI output recovered 4% on the month to 34,000 mt in nickel content.
