China’s NPI output rose 3.27% from December to 38,600 mt Ni in January. This included 31,600 mt Ni of high-grade NPI, up 5.74% on the month, and 7,000 mt Ni of low-grade NPI, down 6.58% month on month.

SHFE nonferrous metals broadly fell on Thursday December 31 as multiple markets closed early for New Year's Eve.

Shanghai base metals mostly cruised lower on Tuesday morning, while their counterparts on the LME rose for the most part as market sentiment was boosted after Trump signed into law the $2.3 trillion pandemic aid and spending package.

Nonferrous metals on the SHFE were mostly higher on Wednesday morning, while their counterparts on the LME also advanced for the most part.

SHFE nonferrous metals rose for the most part on Tuesday November 8 as investors remained cautious over rising coronavirus cases, U.S. stimulus negotiations as well as Brexit talks between the U.K. and the European Union.

SMM high-grade NPI average price on December 4 was 1,030 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), down 10 yuan/mtu on the week. The purchase prices of high-grade NPI moved between 1,020-1,045 yuan/mtu (delivered to factory, tax included).  The willingness of restocking across steel plants have weakened along with the low stainless steel prices, which had dropped below the costs in all domestic ferronickel plants. This has led to lower transactions amid the ferronickel plants’ low intention of delivery.

China’s NPI output shrank 2.2% from October to 42,700 mt Ni in November.

Shanghai base metals traded mixed on Friday morning, as investors continue to wait for a result from the US election. Meanwhile, their counterparts on the LME were mostly higher.

Nonferrous metals on both SHFE and LME declined across the board in early trading of Thursday as investors react to developments from the US Federal Reserve which said it would keep interest rates near zero for years until US economy heals from the effect of the coronavirus pandemic.
