SHANGHAI, Jun 5 (SMM) – Some 300 mt, in metal content, of cobalt sulphate output and 200 mt, in physical content, of cobaltosic oxide output will be affected in Jiangxi province in May and June as smelters cut or stop production on environmental probes, SMM learned.
Operating rates of local cobalt smelters has declined as the province faced extended environmental supervision from central authorities starting on May 9, SMM learned.
A state-owned cobalt smelter in Jiangxi remained suspended as of Tuesday June 5. In a survey, SMM does not expect the smelter to provide output in May and June. Another large local smelter will suspend for 10 days, from June 5.
