SHANGHAI, May 21 (SMM) – As the environmental inspection team from the central government settled in Baotou on Monday May 21, production of silicon-manganese alloy and ferrosilicon alloy is likely to be affected as plants shut down from Monday in Shiguai industrial park in Baotou city of Inner Mongolia, SMM learned.
Though it was estimated that several hundred mt of silicon-manganese alloy output will be affected daily in Baotou city, inspections will extend to other areas of Inner Mongolia and weigh on market sentiment. Production will be suspended at plants that fail to undergo environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedures, SMM learned. China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment is likely to launch a new round of environmental probes across the country this year.
SMM assessed silicon-manganese alloy in north China's market at 7,400 yuan/mt, ex-works on acceptance, on Monday, flat from last week.
