SHANGHAI, Apr 9 (SMM) – Zenith Steel is likely to cut production of its sintering machine by 50% after a provincial inspection team visited the Changzhou-based company on the morning of Wednesday April 25, SMM learned.
In recent months, Changzhou city has failed to meet environmental pollution standards. Other steel plants in the area will also be required to cut production accordingly.
The extent of the production cut has not been officially released. The cut will be lifted as the air quality in Changzhou improves.
SMM expects a relatively limited impact on the production of molten iron as Zenith had reserved some iron blocks during April 1-15 when it carried out maintenance of its rolling line. The company will also minimise the impact by raising the proportion of pellets and steel scrap in production.
