Nickel plate sees a jump on steelmakers’ buying

Demand for nickel plate has finally seen a turnaround since last week as futures prices fell, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, Mar 28 (SMM) – Demand for nickel plate has finally seen a turnaround since last week as futures prices fell, SMM learned. Some steel mills stockpiled and drove the overall procurement volume to over 1,000 mt during the week ended March 25.

Previously, trading activities were stagnant after the Chinese New Year holiday.

The Lisbon-based International Nickel Study Group (INSG) released data on Monday March 21, showing that in January 2022, the global nickel market was oversupplied by 6,000 mt, while there was a supply shortage of 5,300 mt in the same period last year.
