SHANGHAI Sept. 25 (SMM)-SMM understands some local state-owned mines restarted production in September after inspections, but SMEs remained closed because of safety inspections. These mines are expected to resume production after China’s National Day holiday which is during October 1-7.
The fifth central environmental protection inspection team decided at a meeting held August 7 to inspect Sichuan Province during August 7-September 7. This around of environmental protection inspections affected local mines and smelters.
SMM survey finds many mines in Sichuan shut down for maintenance in August, reducing local monthly zinc concentrate output by over 30%. Sichuan’s zinc concentrate output is about 238,000 tonnes per annum.

TCs of domestic zinc concentrate slid 50 yuan per tonne (zinc content) to around 4,000 yuan per tonne (zinc content) in Sichuan due to lower zinc concentrate output in August and September from environmental protection reason.

Zinc ore supply tightness in many regions, including Sichuan, will continue to bolster zinc prices in the near term, SMM said.
