China’s copper scrap imports will shrink in Q4 due to withdrawal of environmental protection approval for “category 7” scrap imports, SMM predicts.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 19 (SMM) – China’s copper scrap imports will shrink in Q4 due to withdrawal of environmental protection approval for “category 7” scrap imports, SMM predicts.

LME Copper Canceled Warrants Post Biggest Gain from June on September 18

The Ministry of Environmental Protection began to withdraw its environmental protection approval for “category 7” scrap recently in Guangdong, Tianjin, Zhejiang and Jiangxi, SMM understands.

Copper Consumption to Grow as New Energy Vehicle Booms

Such approvals for about 40,000 tonnes of scrap were recalled. China will halt the issue of new environmental protection approvals from September.
