SHFE 1801 nickel opened at RMB 92,150/mt today and then fell to RMB 91,040/mt.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 22 (SMM) – SHFE 1801 nickel opened at RMB 92,150/mt today and then fell to RMB 91,040/mt. With rising ferrous metals, SHFE 1801 nickel surged to RMB 92,500/mt in the afternoon, pushed up by rebar and iron ore, and closed at RMB 92,480/mt, up RMB 2,600/mt or 2.89%. Trading volumes on SHFE 1801 nickel decreased 428,000 to 646,000 lots, and positions increased 12,200 to 525,000. SHFE 1801 nickel will fluctuate at highs this evening.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
