SHFE 1801 nickel opened at RMB 87,010/mt today and then dipped to RMB 86,520/mt.

SHANGHAI, Aug. 18 (SMM) – SHFE 1801 nickel opened at RMB 87,010/mt today and then dipped to RMB 86,520/mt. In the afternoon, SHFE 1801 nickel surged to RMB 88,180/mt, pushed up by rebar and iron ore, and closed at RMB 88,090/mt, up RMB 440/mt or 0.50%. Trading volumes on SHFE 1801 nickel decreased 188,000 to 560,000, and positions increased 13,600 to 498,000. SHFE 1801 nickel will fluctuate at highs this evening.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
