SHANGHAI, Jul. 20 (SMM) –United Aluminum Company of Japan (UACJ) highlighted aluminum alloy’s role in making cars lighter during the China International Aluminum Fabrication Forum.
China is the world’s biggest automobile market, UACJ said. Global automobile production reached around 95 million units in 2016, with China taking up nearly 30% of total.
China Automotive Aluminum Consumption Way Below Forecast
In Japan, many carmakers use aluminum alloy materials in engines, car doors, trunks, etc. Despite no increase in automobile production, aluminum use per vehicle keeping increasing. Aluminum use per vehicle has reached 170 kg.
In Europe, many car models use aluminum alloy. Some car models even use all-aluminum car body.
Aluminum Demand Grows in US and Canada in May
In North America, aluminum demand from car body alone will reach almost 1 million tonnes in 2017, and the figure will exceed 1.5 million tonnes by 2020, UACJ estimates.
