WBMS: Global Nickel Market Remains in Deficit in January-May 2017

Global nickel market was in a shortage of 54,300 tonnes during the first five months of 2017, according to the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS). 

SHANGHAI, Jul. 20 (SMM) – Global nickel market was in a shortage of 54,300 tonnes during the first five months of 2017, according to the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS).

The global nickel market was in a shortage of 62,000 tonnes in the whole year of 2016. 

By the end of May 2017, reported inventories held in the LME were up by 12,900 tonnes from the level seen in late 2016. 

The global refined nickel output was 673,200 tonnes from January to May 2017, and demand was 727,400 tonnes. Mine production during January to May was 715,000 tonnes, down 85,000 tonnes on a yearly basis.
