China Primary Lead Output Edges down in June, and to Keep Falling in July, SMM Reports

Published: Jul 10, 2017 11:37
China’s primary lead output totaled 231,873 tonnes in June, down 0.35% MoM and 5.31% MoM, and will edge down in July on a monthly basis.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 10 (SMM) - China’s primary lead output totaled 231,873 tonnes in June, down 0.35% MoM and 5.31% MoM, SMM learned.

In June, some primary lead smelters resumed output, but contributed limited output. Moreover, many primary lead smelters reported falling output month-on-month, including Henan Yuguang Gold & Lead, Henan Jinli Gold & Lead Group and Hunan Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group, due to environmental factors and insufficient raw material supply. As such, primary lead output dropped in June from May’s level.

China Base Metal Output Data in June 2017, SMM Exclusive Data

Output at Henan Yuguang Gold & Lead will reduce 10,000 tonnes in July because of 35-day maintenance, and no maintenance plans heard from other smelters, which will have stable production in the month. Downstream battery producers will hold normal operation in response to peak season in July, increasing raw material demand.

SMM expects primary lead output will edge down in July on a monthly basis.

Xtract’s Amghas Testing Achieves High Lead Removal, with Pilot Work and Plant Design Next
Xtract Resources reported Phase 2 metallurgical-test results from the Amghas antimony mine in Morocco. Testing by Afrilab Group through Xtract’s 80%-owned Wildstone SARL showed that sodium-sulphide alkaline leaching removed more than 99% of lead from the antimony stream into a separate product. The work also indicated potential to produce antimony concentrate exceeding 55% Sb. Xtract is constructing a gravity plant for early cash flow while advancing permitting and construction requirements for a flotation plant. Further pilot-scale work in Rabat will examine pH, desliming and longer alkaline-leach residence times, followed by conceptual flowsheet work for plant design and capital and operating-cost estimates. The disclosed results remain at the metallurgical testing and engineering-preparation stage; no lead-product output or commercial-production schedule was provided.
