Antofagasta Faces Strike Threats at Two Copper Mines

On Tuesday, Antofagasta was facing potential strikes from its Zaldivar and Centinela mines, foreign media reported. 

SHANGHAI, Jul. 5 (SMM) – On Tuesday, Antofagasta was facing potential strikes from its Zaldivar and Centinela mines, foreign media reported.

Workers at Zaldivar mine will vote on whether or not to go on strike by the end of the week, legal advisor said, while supervisors at

Centinela mine have already voted to strike, with government mediation expected, which will prolong negotiations for five more days. 

According to SMM data, output at the Centinela and Zaldivar mine was 226,000 tonnes and 51,700 tonnes, respectively, in 2016.
