SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 76,210/mt today, and held strong in the morning, with the low-end of RMB 76,160/mt.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 29 (SMM) – SHFE 1709 nickel opened at RMB 76,210/mt today, and held strong in the morning, with the low-end of RMB 76,160/mt. In the afternoon, SHFE 1709 nickel reached RMB 76,950/mt, and closed at RMB 76,790/mt, up RMB 990/mt or 1.31%. Trading volumes on SHFE 1709 nickel increased 42,700 to 393,000, and positions increased 11,800 to 510,000. The US dollar index weakened. SHFE nickel is expected to move at highs this evening. US Q1 GDP and the number of initial jobless claims last week will be released this evening.

[SMM Nickel Flash] The SMM average price of 10-12% high-grade NPI fell 17.2 yuan/mtu WoW to 1,035.8 yuan/mtu (ex-factory, tax included), while the Indonesia NPI FOB index average price dropped 2.06 $/mtu WoW to 131.2 $/mtu. At the beginning of the week, futures hit limit-down, and nickel prices fell sharply WoW, driving the emergence of arbitrage supplies sold at low prices, leading to a significant decline in high-grade NPI prices.
