Profit at Chinese aluminum smelters expanded amid big aluminum rally, SMM learned.

SHANGHAI, Jun. 26 (SMM) – Profit at Chinese aluminum smelters expanded amid big aluminum rally, SMM learned.

The average profit was 500 yuan/tonne at smelters in SMM’s survey sample in the week ending June 23. SMM attributes the improvement to higher aluminum prices, which gained 172 yuan/tonne to 13,676 yuan/tonne.

In other costs, prebaked anode prices continued rising, while alumina prices were stable, and the Bohai-Rim Steam-Coal Price Index gained 10 yuan/tonne week-on-week to 574 yuan/tonne.
