SHANGHAI, Jun. 12 (SMM) – Several domestic stainless steel mills have shifted to producing common carbon steel since April 2017 due to big losses and weak demand, Shanghai Metals Market learnt.
Will this become a trend?
According to SMM preliminary data, capacities which have made production shift from stainless steel to carbon steel have amounted to about 80,000 tonnes as of early June.
If the trend continues, supply pressures in stainless steel market will be easing, but nickel demand will be also falling.
